Rosetta Stone - Worth it?

I saw a VERY long advert on TV advertising some program called Rosetta Stone and they were swearing that this program helps you learn a language fast and easy without stress and that some schools are actually using this program in classes, but does it really work?
I mean, before I spend all my money and buy something to help me learn Japanese, I just want to hear from personal experiences on if it really worked.

I never tried it. However, the best way to speak fluently is to actually move to that country and be forced to learn the language to survive. My mom lived in Spain for a year and it really helped her learn the language so she could buy groceries or take a taxi to the airport.

I agree with 'start' the best possible way to learn a language, is to travel to that country and stay there for a while. Plus I would recommend getting Rosetta Stone while staying there so you are putting into practice what you a learning in everyday life.

You cannot do it on your own you will need someone too bounce your words off. I've tried it but returned as I was on my own.

I tried the French version once, it was pretty cool. Instead of learning "Cat" = "Minou", you learn [picture of cat] = Minou. So your brain learns it in a really natural automatic kind of way. I really enjoyed it actually. I also liked the positive feedback. When you got it right, you get a nice little jingle tone as feedback. If you get it wrong you hear a short buzz. If I was going to buy a language program it would be that one.
