Some fashion models have become famous for bad girl diva behaviour, while charity work and humanitarian ventures have shot others to fame. Until recently, stories about drugs, boyfriends and bad manners were all more likely to damage a fashion icon’s reputation than their dress size, but in 2006 extremely thin young actresses and fashion models began to appear in increasing numbers in the tabloid press. Their dramatically low weight sparked the “size-zero debate (US clothes size 0 is equal to UK/European size 4). Critics argue that painfully thin modern fashion icons have a dangerous influence on admiring young women, some of whom are at risk from anorexia nervosa. The deaths of two young South American models from anorexia have added to the controversy. Suggestions for tackling the issue vary, with fashion companies under pressure not to employ very skinny models. Some have called for minimum weights or body mass index measurements. Others demand that doctor’s certificates be presented before models can go on the catwalk. There have also been demands that websites which celebrate anorexia should be shut down or censored in some way.

It's true that many runway models are unrealistically thin. I'm glad they're starting to crack down on that practice though. It's seriously unhealthy to have a 16 BMI, and certainly not something the average woman should look to as an example of what a healthy weight is or should be.

Many girls idolise models and feel the need to mirror their thinness. Models of a very low weight are setting bad examples to these girls and can be held responsible for the increasing number of girls with eating disorders. The fact that some websites celebrate anorexia and hold up skeletal models as examples to follow shows how influential fashion can be. The fashion industry must take responsibility for its actions and avoid promoting extreme thinness as a desirable norm.

I think thinness is a huge misconception. You boys should take initiative to inform girls around the world that you like models that have some mass (like Demi Moore Eye ) & not those size zero models. This would definitely open up their eyes.
