What are your views about institutions of this nature? Do all male and all female schools actually have a place? Or are they too old fashioned and possibly detrimental to one's social development?

Thoughts?

I always wondered if it was better to go to single sex schools or not. I've read that boys and girls learn differently, so I think as long as the schools keep that in mind, it could be a very good thing. If all they do is separate them, then I think it's a real lost opportunity to tailor the teaching style to the sex of the kids.

For example, boys learn better when they can be more physically active. Girls do better with more classic academic style learning, but with more classroom/social interaction.

I have wondered how it affects the kids socially though, being separated, it's a rather artificial social situation, isn't it? Does it hamper them later, for instance when they leave school and start a co-ed college. Are their interactions with the opposite sex underdeveloped?
